Email PPC Advertising vs. Solo Ads: Which Is Best For You?

Here at the office, we’ve been getting a lot of questions about how E-mail PPC actually differs from solo advertising.

After all, both of them revolve around a list owner sending an advertisement to their e-mail list.

However, there are several major differences, which we’ve outline for you below.

Take a look at the list, and when you’re done reading, you’ll be able to decide whether E-mail PPC advertising is ideal for you.

Solo Ads vs. Email PPC: Which Takes More Effort?

Hands down, everyone we’ve asked who has used both has told us E-mail PPC took a lot LESS effort.

The reasoning is that when you’re running solo ads, you have to deal directly with each solo ad provider.

It can take a lot of back and forth communication before all the details are worked out. And when you’re dealing with more than one provider, it takes a lot of micro-managing to start each campaign and track the results.

With E-mail PPC, you simply submit what you’re promoting and it’s pushed out to multiple list owners lists in your market.

Solo Ads vs. Email PPC: Which Costs More?

On average, we’ve found most solo ad providers charge between 40 cents to $1.20 per clicks.

Network rates for E-mail PPC are about 35 cents to 80 cents per click, for most markets.

Solo Ads vs. Email PPC: Which Has A Better Lead Time?

When it comes to scheduling ads to go out, solo ad providers will schedule mailings as they come in.

It keeps it fair for those who have submitted payment first, but the problem is that it can take a week or more until your ad moves to the front to be sent.

With E-mail PPC, you’re using a network, so your campaigns are launched as soon as the creatives are ready.

And regarding creatives…

Solo Ads vs. Email PPC: Submitting Creatives (Ad Copy)

It doesn’t always happen, but solo providers often send out your link with unrelated or blind ads.

By using a E-mail PPC on a network, publishers will be given multiple ad swipes you approve ahead of time.

Plus, by using a major network, you’ll also have access to a team to help you create your ad copy.

Solo Ads vs Email PPC: Preventing Fraud

On a PPC network offering Email PPC, at least on Adclick Media, every click from e-mails being sent out is manually approved before you’re charged.

That way, you always get guaranteed real, targeted traffic.

And although you can use your own tracking with solo ads, it’s hard to monitor every click a provider sends you.

Solo Ads vs. Email PPC: Which Gives You More Control?

When it comes to Adclick Media specifically, you’re able to stop traffic from specific publishers at any time.

That way, if you notice you’re getting a lot of clicks but not a lot of conversions, you can remove that publisher and use your budget toward better quality traffic.

With solo ads, you’d pay a lot more to have the same amount of list owners promoting your offer, and once you’ve submitted your payment, you simply have to wait and see if the amount of clicks you ordered converts.

Solo Ads vs. Email PPC: Which Is More Targeted?

Many times you can find solo ad providers based on the interests/market their list(s) fall under.

The same is true on Adclick Media’s E-maill PPC. But the way it works is once you set which categories/markets would be interested in your offer, only list owners that are a good match will be able to see your offer to promote it.

That way, your clicks are highly targeted.

Solo Ads vs. Email PPC: Managing Your Campaigns

When you deal with an ad network, you only have to deal with one account manager.

As mentioned above, solo advertising usually involves working directly with multiple providers and managing everything on your own.

Which Is Right For You?

Solo advertising still works, but many who have discovered E-mail PPC find there are a lot more benefits to sticking with it.

If you have a lot of time to work with solo providers, and the budget required, you might still enjoy using solo ads.

But if you’re looking for something that allows you to pay once and reach multiple lists with thousands of subscribers each, then E-mail PPC might be more affordable and effective for you.

How To Get More (Qualified) Clicks On PPC Ads

by Abes Admin on October 9, 2013

Here are several tips for getting maximum clicks from your PPC campaigns:

1. The Right Targeting – Look for quality, not quantity, when it comes to click. That means targeting only the ideal prospects for your offers.

2. The Right Copy – Keep ads short but enticing. For CPC (cost-per-click), qualify who you want to click by having a clear message in your ad.

3. The Right Landing Page – Your landing page or wherever you send those who clicks your ads should IMMEDIATELY give what the ad promised. It should be clear that they ended up on the right page, and easy for them to navigate.

What is better for my ROI? CPM or CPC?

OK, you already know the “immediate difference” between a CPM advertising campaign and CPC advertising campaign.

CPM – Cost-Per-Mille, Mille is Latin for “thousand”. You pay per one thousand impressions of you ad.
CPC – Cost per click, you only pay when someone click on your ad.

You may or may not have actually deployed test campaigns to be sure as to which of these brilliant advertising models will work for your specific product.

Should you pay for for the impressions that your ad receives? Or, should you pay only for the click received?

That is the big question….

When it comes to pay-per-click advertising, there’s a lot of confusion about CPM versus CPC.

From an ad network point of view, here is how it works..

CPM — Premium Inventory, Premium Publishers, Premium Price.

This simply means, when you start a CPM model ad campaign with most of the first tier ad networks (Google, Yahoo!, Bing), your ad will be placed on premium high traffic sites (CNN, Yahoo!, Photobucket..etc) and you’ll be paying premium price for impressions.

CPC — The Realm of small publisher and direct marketer.

This means, your ads will display on smaller publishers’ websites, and you pay only for the clicks received. This may actually be a better choice if your product or service is in a smaller and focused niche.

What does this have to do with choosing which model will work for you?

The truth?

It depends on what the GOAL of your ppc advertising campaign is.

In short, if your product appeals to a smaller but enthusiastic niche; if you are looking to increase leads and revenue before popularity and market domination; then, CPC may be a better choice for you.

On the other hand, if your product appeals to a much larger audience; if your marketing goal is to gain popularity among the masses and become a leader in your market, then you may want to consider CPM model on major ad networks.

Here’s a breakdown of where both those scenarios fall.

When Is CPM Useful?

This is where being seen (ex. “brand exposure”) would fall.

If your main goal is to get in front of your market—not necessarily get clicks—then paying for impressions instead of clicks makes the most sense.

Plus, if you’re running a great ad that happens to get a lot of clicks, then you’ll end up getting more clicks for less money.

(Note: This is especially useful for promoting things that are “shocking”, controversial, or otherwise really full of curiosity that peaks prospects interest.)

When Is CPC Useful?

If you’re looking to generate qualified leads, then cost-per-click (CPC) is going to benefit you the most.

The catch?

You MUST have a funnel that’s been setup and proven to convert.

Ideally, you’ll be capturing information from a landing page before sending prospects on to what you’re promoting.

That way, even if they don’t convert immediately, you’ve given yourself the opportunity to continue following up.

Facebook Changes Everything.

Before Facebook came into the advertising game, CPM campaigns would cost you an “arm and a leg”, just because it’s running on Premium Sites.

Facebook targeting is different. You can reach a smaller niche and still pay per impressions, and it wont cost you much.

This means, that you can dominate your small niche using CPM campaigns and still pay lower in cost per click.

Still, you’ll need to test both models side by side and decide for yourself.

Do you have any pay-per-click campaigns running right now? What’s working for you? Please share..

Does Interstitial Advertising (PPC) Work?

Absolutely!

If you’re not familiar with them, interstitial ads are full-page ads that go in between two content pages.

For example, someone might see you ad in between clicking “login” on one page and landing on the next page that takes them to.

Because this means those who see your ads are more engaged (and the fact the ads are full-page), interstitial ads get a lot of attention and generally more clicks.

True Or False: Interstitials Convert Better Than Banners?

The answer: True!

Interstitial ads are full-page ads displayed in between content pages, such as before reading an article you’ve clicked on or in between logging in and reaching the destination page.

Since these ads are full-page and often used for one-time deals and free offers, they generally convert a lot better than banners and text ads.

If you were to offer the same deal/freebie via banner or text ad, research and split tests have proven over and over again that conversions would be higher for interstitials.

Test Multiple Ads For Your Campaigns
